Up & Coming: George Ezra

Up & Coming: George Ezra

New artist George Ezra captures the crowd at The Old Fire Station in Bournemouth on the 17th October. Supporting Lianne La Havas on her Is Your Love Big Enough tour; George Ezra – a shy, humble, Hertford lad took the stage in casual attire; a sweater, jeans and Brogues. He grabbed the guitar and tuned it by ear, fooling the crowd into thinking he was a tech guy.

As the lights dimmed to suit the acoustic mood, he took to the mic and started to sing. Initially nervous, he melted into confidence as his performance went from strength to strength, song after song.

His vocals, I can honestly say, are a dream. You could say he draws similarities to Paolo Nutini, and you would be right, he does. But his entire stage presence and personality is a lot more engaging and positive! Not quite the misery guts that Nutini appears to be!

The voice that reaches your ears doesn't match up to the appearance of the guy that is standing before your eyes. It's much deeper and huskier than you would expect, a nice surprise – his voice has a jagged edge that contrasts with the clean sounds from his Fender Resonator.  His technical skills were faultless throughout his entire set; he didn't put a note wrong! The relationship between himself and his guitar shows you exactly how passionate he is about his music. You can just tell he loves every second spent playing on the stage.

My favourite songs of he night were: It's Just My Skin, Angry Hill and Broken, however his entire set was a pleasure to listen to. When he performs, he is in his zone and reaches into his emotions, captivating the entire audience. You can feel every word that he sings, down to the emotion he puts into his performance; the passion in his voice and the beautifully written songs that he has created.

As support acts go, I would have to say he is one of the best quality acts that I have seen! I really do hope George Ezra is successful after touring with Lianne La Havas! He is a talent that is definitely not to go unnoticed. His track "It's Just My Skin" is up for a free download on www.georgeezra.com and has been played on Maryanne Hobbs Music:Response show on XFM. He is scheduled in on the show for the 1st of November, so be sure to check it out!
