Country Bumpkin

So when it comes to music, at the moment I consider myself as a bit of a "Country Bumpkin". Perhaps this is due to the fact that when I worked in my pub I would always work the Sunday "Folk Night" shift with banjos and violins galore? Maybe. But right now I'm absolutely LOVING British folk acts such as Mumford and Sons, Ben Howard, Noah and the Whale and Frank Turner (who's England Keep My Bones album is currently only £4.99 on iTunes) to name a few! I'm not really sure what it is, I think listening to this music reminds me of holidays on the Cornish and Devonshire coast and is a reminder of what it truly means to be British. Walking to the College bus stop in my countryside village was always a perfect time to listen to Sigh No More, as the morning Autumn sun would creep over the fields and I would feel homely.

Mumford and Sons were the band that had completely broken the mould when it comes to the reception of folk music. A lot of the time, folk bands would try it in the music industry but would never really reach the acclaim they deserved, however, Mumford and Sons received a HUGE following after their debut single Little Lion Man. The song showed that much like traditional folk music, the themes  about love and heartbreak were actually identifiable for most people, and with the line "I really fucked it up this time, didn't I my dear?" an attitude that was not recognised true to folk music was introduced giving Mumford and Sons that edge. I think it's because they showed that traditional folk music isn't as fuddy duddy as it's stereotype would have you believe that they became so popular, as well as their incredible talent as a band.

Their new album Babel is due for release on the 24th September here in the UK, and I couldn't be more excited about it! Their latest single that has been released, I am guessing (I'm 99% sure) is from their new album, called I Will Wait, is a corker of a tune and is a good sign for things to come! The up-tempo intro; catchy chorus; the chop and change in tempo throughout... AND THAT BANJO! It is just a brilliant tune and I can't wait for more! I can't stop listening to it! I have such high hopes and expectations for Babel and I really do hope it lives up to or exceeds them! And hopefully, a new album means a UK tour? Just a speculation, but if it's true then I am there.
